A More Private, Direct Approach to Therapy

Interactive Mind Counseling is a private-pay and out-of-network practice. I do not bill insurance companies directly.

For many clients, private-pay therapy offers greater discretion and keeps treatment decisions primarily between the client and psychologist. Your care does not need to be authorized by an insurance company or shaped around an insurer’s requirements for reimbursement.

This can provide greater flexibility in deciding:

  • What you want to work on

  • How frequently you attend therapy

  • How long treatment continues

  • Whether a diagnosis is clinically useful

  • Which therapeutic approaches best fit your needs

  • When treatment goals have been reached

Private-pay care can also reduce the amount of personal clinical information routinely shared with a third party for billing or coverage review.

Greater Choice and Continuity

Using insurance often means choosing from a limited provider network. Private-pay therapy allows you to select a psychologist based on clinical training, experience, therapeutic approach, cultural understanding, and personal fit—not simply whether the clinician appears on an insurance-company list.

At Interactive Mind Counseling, all care is provided directly by Dr. Nikhil Jain. You are not assigned to an associate, trainee, or rotating clinical team. This supports continuity, privacy, and a consistent therapeutic relationship from the initial consultation through the course of treatment.

Treatment Based on Your Needs

Insurance reimbursement generally depends on whether services meet the plan’s definition of medical necessity. Private-pay therapy allows treatment to address the full context of your life—not only the minimum information required to support an insurance claim.

Therapy may focus on anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, relationship patterns, identity, cultural or family pressure, work stress, emotional disconnection, major decisions, or a desire for greater clarity and self-understanding.

You do not need to wait until you are in crisis to seek thoughtful psychological care.

Important Privacy Information

Private-pay therapy does not mean that no clinical records are maintained or that the usual legal limits of confidentiality do not apply. As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Jain maintains appropriate records and follows applicable professional, ethical, and legal requirements.

When you pay privately and do not submit a claim or superbill, information about your treatment is not routinely sent to an insurance company for reimbursement.

If you choose to request a superbill and pursue out-of-network benefits, the superbill will generally include diagnostic and billing information. Your insurance company may also request additional information before deciding whether reimbursement is available.

The decision to involve your insurance company is yours.

Out-of-Network Reimbursement

Some clients choose private-pay therapy while still seeking partial reimbursement through out-of-network benefits.

Upon request, Interactive Mind Counseling can provide a superbill that you may submit directly to your insurance company. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your individual plan.

Before beginning therapy, consider asking your insurer:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental-health benefits?

  • Is there an out-of-network deductible?

  • What percentage of the allowed amount is reimbursed?

  • Is a diagnosis required?

  • Does the plan require prior authorization?

  • Will the insurer request clinical documentation?

  • How do I submit a superbill?

You may also choose not to submit anything to insurance and keep payment entirely private.

Private, Personalized Psychological Care

Private-pay therapy is an investment in direct, individualized care from the psychologist you selected. It offers greater choice, fewer administrative barriers, and more room for treatment to be guided by your clinical needs, personal goals, and readiness for change.

FAQs

Will My Insurance Company Receive My Diagnosis or Therapy Records?

If you pay privately and do not submit claims or superbills, Interactive Mind Counseling does not routinely send your diagnosis or treatment information to an insurance company for reimbursement.

If you request a superbill, it will generally include information such as a diagnosis, service code, dates of service, and fees paid. Your insurer may request additional documentation when reviewing an out-of-network claim.

Insurance companies do not routinely receive a therapist’s separately maintained psychotherapy notes. Those notes receive additional legal protection and generally require written authorization before they may be disclosed, subject to limited legal exceptions.

Dr. Jain maintains appropriate clinical records regardless of how therapy is paid for and follows applicable confidentiality, legal, and ethical requirements.
