Anxiety Therapy in San Francisco
You may be managing work, relationships, and daily responsibilities while spending much of your energy worrying, second-guessing, or trying to prevent mistakes. Anxiety can show up as mental replay, difficulty resting, avoiding uncomfortable situations, or saying yes when you want to say no.
I’m Nikhil Jain, Psy.D., a California-licensed clinical psychologist. At Interactive Mind Counseling, I provide individual therapy for adults who want to understand their anxiety and practice responding differently. Sessions are available in person in San Francisco and online throughout California.

The experience varies from person to person. You may notice:
Repeatedly reviewing conversations or decisions.
Seeking reassurance but finding that relief does not last.
Perfectionism, procrastination, or fear of making mistakes.
Social anxiety or concern about how others see you.
People-pleasing and difficulty expressing your needs.
Worry affecting sleep, concentration, work, or relationships.
Panic or distressing physical sensations associated with anxiety.
These experiences deserve individual assessment rather than assumptions about their cause.
What Anxiety Can Look Like
When You Function Well but Still Feel Anxious
“High-functioning anxiety” is an informal description, not a formal diagnosis. It describes an experience some people recognize: appearing capable or successful while feeling worried, tense, or driven by pressure internally.
You do not need to be visibly struggling to seek support. What matters is how anxiety affects your life and the effort required to keep managing it.
Understanding What Keeps Anxiety Going
Checking, reassurance-seeking, overpreparing, and avoidance can provide short-term relief. For some people, that relief makes the same response more likely the next time uncertainty appears.
We can examine what happens before, during, and after these moments. This includes the immediate situation, your thoughts and emotions, relevant past experiences, and the response that follows. The aim is to understand the pattern and develop more flexible options.
My Approach to Anxiety Therapy
My style is active and collaborative. I ask questions, share observations, and invite you to consider different perspectives. We also make room for emotional experiences that may be difficult to explain or resolve through analysis alone.
I draw from approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and relational work. Treatment is shaped by your concerns, goals, and clinical needs.
Practical skills and psychological depth can work together. We may practice responding to uncertainty, approaching situations you have been avoiding, setting boundaries, or taking action connected to your values. We review what is useful and adjust the work as needed.
Anxiety, Work, and Relationships
Anxiety may become especially noticeable around demanding work, major decisions, family expectations, or close relationships. We can explore those pressures without assuming that achievement, culture, or a particular life circumstance explains your experience.
Therapy can help you examine both your circumstances and the patterns influencing how you respond.
In-Person in San Francisco, Online Throughout California

Interactive Mind Counseling is a private-pay, out-of-network practice. I do not bill insurance directly.
