Therapy for Young Adults in San Francisco
Early adulthood can bring questions about work, relationships, identity, independence, and what comes next. You may feel pressure to make the right choices while wondering whether your current direction reflects what you actually want.
I’m Nikhil Jain, Psy.D., a California-licensed clinical psychologist. I provide individual therapy for adults age 18 and older, including college students and people navigating their twenties and early thirties. I offer in-person sessions in San Francisco and online therapy throughout California.
Concerns We Can Work On
Anxiety, overthinking, and difficult decisions.
Feeling behind or comparing yourself with others.
Career uncertainty, workplace pressure, or changing direction.
Dating, breakups, communication, and recurring relationship patterns.
Family expectations, boundaries, identity, and belonging.
Low motivation, self-doubt, or feeling stuck during a transition.
Your experience does not need to fit a standard picture of early adulthood. We begin with the concerns that matter to you.
Understanding Patterns and Practicing Change
You may understand a difficulty intellectually and still find yourself responding in the same way. We can look closely at what happens in specific situations: what you anticipate, what you feel, what you do, and what happens afterward.
For example, avoiding a difficult conversation may provide immediate relief while leaving an important concern unresolved. Therapy can help you understand that response and practice other ways of communicating.
My style is active and collaborative. I ask questions, share observations, and connect current concerns with relevant personal history, relationships, and cultural context. Practical changes and deeper understanding both have a place.
Work, Independence, and Direction
Entering the workforce, changing jobs, pursuing further education, or becoming more independent can bring uncertainty. We can explore your values, practical constraints, and the expectations influencing your decisions.
The aim is to help you make considered choices and respond more flexibly to uncertainty, without assuming there is one correct timeline or path.
Support for College Students
College students may be managing academic demands alongside questions about friendships, identity, family relationships, or future plans.

What Progress Can Look Like
We identify goals together and review changes that matter to you. These might include spending less time caught in mental replay, communicating needs more directly, approaching avoided situations, or following through on decisions.
Progress varies. Your observations and feedback help us decide what to continue or adjust.
